Community Health Project
Participating in this community health project at a women’s homeless shelter helped me see how important it is to bring oral health education outside of the clinic. My group created and used a trifold brochure to guide our presentation, which helped us explain oral hygiene, nutrition, and access to care in a simple and realistic way. Being there in person and presenting to the women made me more aware of the barriers they face, like limited resources and access to dental care. The photo from our visit shows our involvement in the community and the effort we put into connecting with this population. This experience helped me improve my communication skills and showed me how important it is to meet patients where they are. It supports Program Outcome Goal #5 by demonstrating my ability to promote oral health through community involvement, education, and teamwork.
