Reflection on Evidence-based practice

Writing my research paper on the effects of fluoride taught me how to use evidence to make recommendations for patient care. I learned about the benefits of fluoride for preventing cavities, but I also studied the possible risks of overexposure and why some patients choose to avoid it. This helped me realize the importance of being prepared with safe, research-based alternatives like hydroxyapatite toothpaste, which can also strengthen enamel and lower cavity risk. By comparing research from multiple sources, I learned how to explain options to patients in a way that fits their needs and beliefs. This experience helped me feel more confident using research to guide my care and provide education that supports better oral health.
