Project on Parkinson's Disease
Creating my oral pathology presentation on Parkinson’s disease and its relationship to oral health strengthened my ability to provide individualized, comprehensive dental hygiene care for medically compromised patients. This project helped me better understand how Parkinson’s disease affects motor control, salivary flow, swallowing, and a patient’s ability to maintain oral hygiene, all of which directly influence assessment and treatment planning. I learned how important it is to modify appointment scheduling, oral hygiene instruction, and preventive strategies based on each patient’s physical limitations and disease progression. This experience supports Program Outcome Goal #3 by reinforcing the role of assessment, planning, and evaluation in delivering effective, patient-centered dental hygiene care to diverse populations.
